This morning we woke up in a cuddle puddle after a great last night of cowboy camping under the stars. Cook crew made a delicious last day breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes and whipped cream! Those who weren’t cooking helped out by deep cleaning the van and washing all the dishes to get them ready for the next group. Shortly after 9am we loaded up the van for the last time as a full group 🙁 We made a quick pit stop at Walmart for last minute plane snacks and soon found ourselves waving goodbye to Sam, Hannah, and Lydia at the airport. There were lots of hugs and a few tears. We had a long break in between departure times so we headed into town with the remaining members of the crew to grab tacos and shaved ice for lunch. We did some more souvenir shopping and sat by the water for a little to watch groups train for outrigger canoe races. Before we knew it, it was time to head back to the airport and say goodbye to the rest of the gang. Three hours and four flights later, all the kiddos were up in the air on their way home and Kelvyn and I were headed for some much-needed downtime 🙂
We want to say THANK YOU to all the parents for allowing us to get to know your kids these past few weeks. We understand that trusting your children with two 23-year olds for 3 weeks in Hawaii can be nerve-wracking, and we hope that these blogs served as a way for you all to stay in the loop and put some concerns at ease. We have thoroughly enjoyed the connections we made with each individual on this trip, and have seen an astounding amount of personal growth from everyone in the group.
Thank you to all the students for your wonderful presence on this trip. You all brought the energy and an unmatched enthusiasm to all activities, from hiking to snorkeling to even cooking and cleaning. It was Kelvyn and I’s pleasure to spend the past 3 weeks learning and growing alongside you. What an adventure it’s been, and we wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂 Goodbye for now and we hope to see you next summer!
