July 4th, Getting drenched

This morning, we woke up at the crack of dawn ( 5:30am) to head to Yosemite valley for the day. After an hour long drive, we were VERY impressed with the beautiful views. Bailey, Bridget, Ian, and Mia prepared a delicious breakfast of yogurt, granola, berries and other toppings which we enjoyed by a meadow with views of very large granite cliffs and waterfalls. Reuben got to try peanut butter for the first time and rated it a one out of five. Everyone ventured the steep mountain for 120,000 miles (6.5 miles) before our parched selves found salvation- the waterfall. We were encouraged to keep going up the mountain by the rainbow created by the waterfalls. Along the trail, we were schooled in the ways of sign language by Bailey and Tessa; Ian is “halfway to halfway fluent” now. Suddenly, mist was blown in our faces as the treacherous, slippery staircase beside the waterfall loomed before us. The journey was long, arduous, and not without casualties; Livi’s contact was askew! Luckily, Mia came to the rescue and helped her put it in the right way, as they stood in the crazy mist of the waterfall. After Anderson (among others) caused all of our ears to bleed with his whining, we finally touched flat ground and started lunch. Not before catastrophe though- Mia exploded the salad bag! We were resourceful enough to scrounge up wraps made with a great salad, chicken, and Chick-fil-A sauce. Tyson, our leader of the day ended our hiking adventure successfully with a little shopping spree in the souvenir shop. On the way back to camp, we stopped to see El Capitan where the documentary Free Solo took place. When we arrived home we all took an ice bath in the river while Emily had the most rejuvenating nap. Van crew, which consisted of Reuben, Tyson, Tessa, and Emily cleaned the van filled with stinky boots while the cook crew which consisted of Greta, Anderson, and Livi created a feast of macaroni for dinner.
Happy 4th of July,
